The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.

About Charlotte
For as long as I can remember, I have had a huge curiosity about how people’s personalities develop. Alongside this, I have a desire to understand how different experiences and personality types can impact people’s lives.
I’ve often been told what a calming influence I am and I’ve been described as, ‘warm, gentle, compassionate and deeply intuitive with a quality of stillness which is both containing and allowing, offering clients an experience of being accepted for who they are with no agenda’. This was very moving to hear and I’m honoured to be thought of in this way.
I know how hard it can be to not feel accepted as you are and I also know the courage it takes to choose and stick to your own path.
Some of my natural ways of being have come in for criticism and judgment in the past, and I have doubted who I am, but by working hard through my own therapy and self-care, I now view my traits of introversion and high sensitivity, as superpowers, particularly in my work as a therapist.
They enable me to naturally sit with people's feelings and engage in deep reflection, helping them illuminate and address those shadowy areas that are often denied or ignored, but would greatly benefit from being worked through and released.
I was brought up with a ‘stop making a fuss and just get on with it’ attitude, with little time or space to talk about or process uncomfortable feelings or challenging situations.
I have turned this around and made a successful, life affirming career out of doing the exact opposite!
I aim to create a safe, encouraging and containing space for people to explore their view of the world and the experiences that may have led them to how they feel today.
You may not know why you feel the way you do and that’s ok. I am here to listen to your story and help you join the dots.
We will work together to understand why you are where you are and how you can make positive changes for the future.
Most importantly, I want to support you in being who you want to be. Allowing you to embrace your authentic self and live your life with healthy ways of dealing with the myriad of emotions that we all experience along the way.
Feedback I’ve received from clients is that, after our sessions, they’ve felt heard, valued, and ‘no longer drowning out at sea but far more able to ride the waves of life’.
“We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding and true empathy. Yet, listening of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know.”
— Carl Rogers
Professional Experience
I have always worked within the caring profession, at first predominantly working with children in many capacities including as a nanny, a therapist with autistic children and their families, a research assistant at Great Ormond Street Hospital and as a residential social worker in various children's homes.
Since starting my MA in 2007, I've worked as an Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor in schools, for charities and in private practice. I was a trainee for the first three years, until I qualified in 2010.
In 2012 when I returned to Somerset from London, I began running a private practice at Kilver Court, Shepton Mallet working with children, adolescents and adults to help them overcome a range of difficulties and emotions.
Over the last few years, I’ve discovered that my passion lies in working with teenagers and adults. Often, even as adults, we carry around parts of our ‘inner child’ with us and in helping people to untangle childhood experiences and explore challenging emotions, behaviours and experiences, I am able to help them move forward equipped with healthy ways of managing difficult feelings.
I now work in person and online from the comfort of a peaceful upstairs room in my home in Castle Cary, Somerset. This is a quiet and confidential space for you to be able to relax and share your feelings with me.
I also have a qualification as a Vegan Natural Chef from the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London, where I learnt how food can be used as medicine. I am happy to use some of this knowledge in therapy sessions if that is something that would be of interest to you.
I also have a particular interest in the 'replacement child' phenomenon and am researching and blogging about this. Please see my website for more details.
